Four sobriety checkpoints will be set up tonight by local authorities.

Columbus Police will conduct two checkpoints in the University area.

The first will be on N. High St. at McMillen Ave (Click for map view). from 9 to 11 p.m., and the second will be on N. High St. at E. Tompkins St. from 1 to 3 a.m.

Police said the seven intersections on N. High between Fourth and Twelfth avenues have a crash rate involving impaired drivers between 13 and 25 percent. The rate of crashes involved impaired drivers on N. High intersections near Tompkins St. is three to eight times higher than the city average.

Additionally, the Franklin County DUI Task Force will be conducting two sobriety checkpoints Friday night.


The first checkpoint will be held on State Route 665 (London-Groveport Road), east of Norton Road (Click for Map View), from 9:00 p.m. and will continue through approximately 1:30 a.m.

The second checkpoint will be held on Norton Road, north of State Route 665, from 9:00 p.m. to approximately 1:30 a.m.

The Task Force says it wants to impress upon those who will be consuming alcohol to plan for a designated driver or make other arrangements.
