The Columbus Police have announced they will be conducting two sobriety checkpoints in west Columbus Friday night.

The first will be operated on W. Broad St. at Interstate 70. The second will be located on Georgesville Rd. at Atlanta Drive.

“These are major arterial roadways with freeway access through both residential and business districts, and are coupled with significant rates of impaired driving crashes,” Columbus Police Traffic Bureau Sergeant Michael Smith said.

The W. Broad St. checkpoint will begin at 9 p.m. and go until 11 p.m. Friday.

The second checkpoint at Georgesville Rd. will last from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday.

Those who will consume alcohol are reminded to plan for a designated driver and make sure others do not drive while impaired.
